Qld: Greenpeace coal protest foiled by winds

Wild winds have prevented Greenpeace activists from unfurling a banner while protesting
government inaction on climate change at a north Queensland coal terminal.

The Greenpeace vessel Esperanza stationed itself near the Xstrata Coal terminal at
Abbot Point .. 25km north of Bowen.

An Xstrata spokesman says several protesters tried to set up the banner but heavy winds
stopped them.

The spokesman also says there's been no impact on the terminal because the next ship
isn't due in until tonight.

Greenpeace says the protest is timed to coincide with this week's Pacific Islands Forum
where a regional approach to climate change will be discussed.
