Vic: Environment ministers begin plastic bags talks

Environment ministers from the commonwealth .. states and territories have headed into
a meeting in Melbourne.

The issue of a levy on plastic bags will be at the top of the agenda of the Environment
Protection and Heritage Council meeting.

Federal Environment Minister PETER GARRETT says the aim is to have a constructive meeting
.. as all the ministers recognise how important the environment is for all Australians.

Queensland has said it won't support a levy which would impose more costs on families
.. but has called for an eventual ban on plastic bags.
